Some 3,000 managers, engineers and buyers from the rail, infrastructure and tunnelling sectors visited Exporail 2011 and INTERtunnel 2011, which took place in Moscow from 16 to 18 March. The combined event was supported by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow, Russian Railways (RZD), the Russian Tunnelling Association and the International Transport Academy.
Among visitors to the two exhibitions were representatives of RZD and leading signalling technology company Elteza, plus specialist organisations like railway safety systems supplier Tvema and the VIST Group, which undertakes information systems development.
Together the two shows attracted 135 exhibitors from 15 countries. As well as Russian companies, these included firms from Austria, China, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and the USA.
Among international participants at Exporail were Ansaldo STS, ArcelorMittal Rails and Special Sections, Electro-Motive Diesel, Frauscher Sensor Technik, Leroy Automation, Locomotive Kyrastyru Zauyty of Kazakhstan, Schlatter Industries, Schwihag and Tamtron Systems. They were exhibiting alongside major Russian companies representing a broad range of the industry’s rail technology capabilities.
Leading the participation by Russian organisations with a state-of- the art stand was RZD. The company’s display marked some of its latest achievements, such as the introduction of Sapsan and Allegro high-speed trains, heralding a new phase in the development of rolling stock in the country.
INTERtunnel exhibitors were mostly Russian companies such as Geomash-Zentr and Tonneldorstroy but also included firms from Austria, Germany and Spain.
Organised by Restec Brooks, a joint venture between UK-based Mack Brooks Exhibitions and Restec Exhibition Company of St Petersburg, Exporail 2011 was the fifth rail technology trade show to be held in Moscow; INTERtunnel 2011 was the fourth of the series of companion exhibitions of tunnelling technology and systems.
Visitor numbers were boosted by more than 200 delegates attending the 4th Transport Congress, which took place at Expocentr venue during the two exhibitions. The Congress was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the Transport Committee of the State Duma, the Federal Agency for Rail Transport, the Government of Moscow and leading rail industry companies.
Visitors also took advantage of the opportunity of free participation in a programme of ‘Discussion Club’ sessions, providing further valuable insights into the policies and technologies shaping the development of railways and transport infrastructure in Russia.
Leading the formal opening of the two exhibitions was Sergey Nikolayevich Yepiphancev, State Secretary and Vice-President of RZD, Alexandr Nikolayevich Levchenko, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Tunnelling Association, Victor Alexandrovich Dosenko, Vice-President of the International Transport Academy, and V G Rybkin, Chair of the Committee of Transport Infrastructure and Energy Saving under the National Association of Design Engineers. Mr Dosenko read a welcome message to participants in the two exhibitions and their associated events on behalf of Russia’s Minister of Transport, Igor Levitin.
Representatives of the shows’ organising partners also took part in the opening event, which was followed by a VIP tour of exhibitors’ stands.
