Expo Ferroviaria 2019: Record visitors and a return to Milan in 2021

Expo Ferroviaria 2019: Record visitors and a return to Milan in 2021

With 8,400 visitors, the exhibition has proved to be a reference point for the railway industry both in Italy and internationally.

The ninth edition of EXPO Ferroviaria, Italy’s showcase for railway technologies, products and systems, closed at Rho Fiera Milano. The numbers confirm the importance of the event for the international railway industry, with many innovations in the sector presented.

The three day event in Milan had a turnout of 8,400 visitors including managers, executives and engineers. The participation of foreign visitors, coming from 64 countries and of delegations of railway operators from Brazil, Japan, Vietnam, Colombia, Chile, Thailand, USA and Australia once again highlighted the increasingly international spirit of the exhibition. There were 280 exhibitors altogether from 21 countries, of which over 100 were exhibiting for the first time.

The visit of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli on the first day confirmed the importance of rail transport in Italy. She went to the main stands, seeing the innovative technologies at the event. Among these were Stadler Rail AG, with a preview of the 1: 1 scale model of the FLIRT DMU train built for the FNM Group. There was also ETS s.r.l with "ARCHITA-ETS Mobile Mapping System", a cutting-edge modular system for mobile survey for civil engineering and infrastructure surveys. Furthermore, Alstom Ferroviaria was there with its innovative and sustainable solutions both at the railway level and for urban transport. The Lucchini RS Group highlighted the evolution of wheelset maintenance, a sector in which the advent of digitalization provides operators with increasingly innovative and cutting-edge tools.

There was a peek at the future too, with the presentation of the "ERCI Innovation Award 2019.” Siemens Mobility and D-Rail were awarded the best European innovations 2019, developed within ERCI's Railway Technology Districts by a Large Enterprise and an SME. The European Coup de Coeur Jury Prize went to IVM Srl with POWERVE- POrtable WEigher for RAilway VEhicles, a portable static balance for rolling stock.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Giuseppe Gaudiello, the President ANIE-ASSIFER; Maurizio Gentile, CEO and General Manager of RFI (the Italian Railway Network); Andrea Gibelli, President of FNM Group; Marco Granelli, Councilor for Mobility and Environment of the Municipality of Milan; Marco Piuri, Managing Director of Trenord, and Claudia Maria Terzi, Councillor for Infrastructures Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region.

The next edition of EXPO Ferroviaria will return to Milan in autumn 2021.
